You might create or join a new-economy company such as an agency\, creative brand\, influencer or brand-management business. Or you might find your place inside the industry\, working for a studio\, production company\, animation house\, recording label or other creative enterprise. \n\nPeter\, a Homer native and Syracuse University graduate\, is a Los Angeles-based writer\, director\, producer and founder of award-winning Fantasma House\, an independent production company that has garnered national and international laurels on the film circuit festival. His experience spans filmmaking\, music videos\, commercial content and animation\, including development and production work in the entertainment industry. His full-time job is on the production team for SpongeBob SquarePants at Nickelodeon. \n\n\nJustina\, a native of the Poconos and also a Syracuse University graduate\, is a CG generalist and look development artist at Warner Bros. Pictures Animation\, with previous experience at Sony Pictures Animation\, Netflix Animation and Skydance Animation. Her work has been featured in animated films such as Ultraman: Rising\, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory\, and she is currently working on Warner Brother’s Hello Kitty and Oh! The Places You’ll Go\, both set to be released in 2028. Her career offers a firsthand look at the increasingly interdisciplinary world where art\, storytelling\, technology and animation come together. Additionally\, she is the creator of an independent jewelry line and teaches animation. \n\nNow living and working in Hollywood while maintaining their connections to Honer and their local roots\, Peter and Justina will share the real stories behind their career journeys\, including what they learned\, how they found opportunities\, what it takes to break into the industry\, and how young creatives can begin building their own networks\, portfolios\, creative side businesses and professional identities. \nFrom Homer to Hollywood is designed for young entrepreneurs\, artists\, creators\, makers\, students and anyone wondering how to turn what they love to do into a sustainable future. \nCome with your ideas. They have provided some information about their collection here.\n\nThe Grace Brown Farm Collection:\nLocated in South Otselic\, New York\, the Seales family owns and operates the historic 180-acre Grace Brown Farm\, home to what is believed to be one of the largest private collections of Grace Brown and Chester Gillette memorabilia in existence. Since purchasing the farm in 2021\, the Seales family has become the steward of a growing collection of artifacts related to the Brown family\, the history of the farm\, and the infamous 1906 Chester Gillette murder trial following the tragic death of Grace Brown at Big Moose Lake. Visitors\, local residents\, historians\, and descendants have generously donated photographs\, documents\, family heirlooms\, and other historical items\, recognizing the farm as an appropriate home for preserving Grace Brown’s story.\nPreserving Grace Brown’s Legacy\n\nToday\, the Seales family proudly serves as the caretaker of this remarkable collection. In memory of their dear friend Paul Heagerty\, they continue to preserve\, expand\, and exhibit these historical artifacts during public events held throughout the year. Their commitment ensures that the story of Grace Brown—and the tragic events that unfolded at Big Moose Lake in 1906—remains an important part of New York’s history for future generations to learn from and remember.\n\nJoin us on Saturday\, October 10 from 11am to 4pm to view memorabilia from the collection of the Grace Brown Farm and to hear more about this important collection from Edward Seales. The Honorable John Sherman will give a talk focused on the trial of Chester Gillette and the evidence from the case. Judge Sherman is retired from the bench\, but early in his law career\, he served as the Chief Assistant District Attorney in Herkimer County which is where the Gillette trial took place. SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn: American sculptor William Couper
DESCRIPTION:This illustrated talk explores the surprising connection between the American sculptor William Couper (1853-1942) and the city of Cortland\, New York. Late in life Couper moved to Cortland to live with his son\, the painter William Alan Couper\, who had established a home at 94 Tompkins Street. During his final years there\, Couper had largely left sculpture behind and devoted himself to painting. The presentation traces Couper’s artistic career\, his connection to Thomas Ball\, and the rediscovery of his Cortland residency through local historical research. Sculptures from the speaker’s collection and a painting by William Alan Couper donated to the Cortland County Historical Society will be featured. \nThis year is our ELEVENTH year of providing lunchtime learning opportunities for our community\, and we hope you’ll join us to learn more about local and regional history! \nWhat to know: \n~This event will take place at our event center located at 9 Grace Street\, Cortland. There is a small parking lot and additional street parking. \n~Bring your own lunch if you wish\, and we will provide a beverage and dessert. \n~Admission is free for members of the Cortland County Historical Society (CCHS) and $5 for CCHS members-to-be.
