SUMMARY:New Moon Sound Bath
DESCRIPTION:Join Robyn Mello of Earthtoned for an intimate sound journey held each New Moon—a cyclical invitation to slow down\, release past stress\, connect with your present self\, and envision the future. \nMore than a traditional sound bath*\, this practice will weave together singing bowls\, chimes\, intuitive vocals\, and occasional song with guided nature-based mindfulness. Rooted in both the wisdom of the visible Earth and the invisible world of vibration\, participants are invited to regulate the nervous system\, soften emotional and energetic heaviness\, and make space for clarity\, healing\, and renewal. \nEach gathering is unique\, shaped by the energy of the group and the lunar cycle. Many describe an Earthtoned event as a spiritual cleansing\, counseling session\, and intimate live concert woven into one deeply restorative experience. \nThis inaugural August gathering aligns with the New Moon and Leo solar eclipse\, making it an especially potent time to release what no longer serves you and welcome what is ready to emerge. \nCome exactly as you are. Leave feeling lighter\, more grounded\, and more connected to yourself. \n*A sound bath is a deeply restorative meditation where you simply rest and receive the healing vibrations of live instruments and voice. Bring a yoga mat\, blanket\, eye mask\, pillow\, water\, and anything else

SUMMARY:Finding the Story
DESCRIPTION:Every day\, the news delivers remarkable stories—but what makes one of them feel like a play\, a movie\, or even a musical? \nJoin storyteller Erik Forrest Jackson for an interactive workshop exploring how writers transform real-life events into compelling drama. Inspired in part by the popular “How Would This Be a Movie?” segment of the acclaimed screenwriting podcast Scriptnotes\, participants will step into the role of a creative team\, discovering how writers uncover the dramatic possibilities inside true stories. \nThe workshop begins with a review of several recent news stories. Together\, the group will discuss which one has the greatest theatrical potential before voting on a favorite. From there\, participants will collaboratively build the foundation of a brand-new adaptation\, identifying the central characters\, defining what each contributes to the story\, mapping major plot points\, and debating whether the material belongs onstage as a play\, a musical\, or perhaps something else entirely. \nAlong the way\, participants will discover that adaptation isn’t simply about retelling events—it’s about making creative choices. Every story has countless possible versions\, and every mind approaches it differently. Rather than focusing on polished writing\, this workshop invites participants to think like storytellers: to ask questions\, make imaginative leaps\, and uncover the emotional heart that transforms real life into theater. \nNo writing or theatre experience is necessary. Aspiring or established writers are welcome\, as are folks who just love a good story. No matter your experience\, you’ll leave with a fresh eye toward how artists shape the world around us into unforgettable drama.

SUMMARY:Buckethead at Center for the Arts
DESCRIPTION:A masked guitar virtuoso. A catalog so massive it defies logic. And a night of music that slips between metal\, funk\, jazz\, blues\, and the beautifully bizarre. \nOn May 11\, the enigmatic Buckethead returns to the Center for the Arts of Homer for an evening of genre-bending soundscapes and lightning-fast fretwork. \nBuckethead has released over 700 studio recordings — more than almost any artist in history — including more than 650 albums in his legendary Pike Series. He’s also appeared on more than 50 albums by other artists\, proving that no style is safe from his six-string sorcery. Expect everything from progressive metal and funk to bluegrass and avant-garde experiments\, often within the same song. \nCome witness the return of a modern musical myth — part shredder\, part storyteller\, part walking curiosity.

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn: By the Shores of Solon Pond
DESCRIPTION:An unforgettable Civil War-era coming-of-age saga of family\, sacrifice\, and the hard-won courage to hope. \nWaldo Potter has spent his life in the shadows of Solon Pond—working the fields\, tending to chores\, and carrying the weight of his family’s expectations on a farm that barely survives. In upstate New York on the brink of the American Civil War\, he longs for something more even as the burdens at home grow heavier. \nWith his father’s farm slipping toward ruin and familial resentments rising\, Waldo finds an unexpected mentor in his Uncle Charles—whose steady guidance offers both comfort and challenge. When war calls\, Waldo enlists\, stepping into a world of battle\, hardship\, and hard truths that reshape him from the inside out. \nFrom the rich rhythms of rural life to the brutal realities of war\, By the Shores of Solon Pond captures one young man’s journey from boyhood innocence to war-worn self-understanding and his enduring devotion to family. It is a story of heroism\, sacrifice\, and the resilience of the human spirit. \nThis year is our ELEVENTH year of providing lunchtime learning opportunities for our community\, and we hope you’ll join us to learn more about local and regional history! \nWhat to know: \n~This event will take place at our event center located at 9 Grace Street\, Cortland. There is a small parking lot and additional street parking. \n~Bring your own lunch if you wish\, and we will provide a beverage and dessert. \n~Admission is free for members of the Cortland County Historical Society (CCHS) and $5 for CCHS members-to-be. SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn: American sculptor William Couper
DESCRIPTION:This illustrated talk explores the surprising connection between the American sculptor William Couper (1853-1942) and the city of Cortland\, New York. Late in life Couper moved to Cortland to live with his son\, the painter William Alan Couper\, who had established a home at 94 Tompkins Street. During his final years there\, Couper had largely left sculpture behind and devoted himself to painting. The presentation traces Couper’s artistic career\, his connection to Thomas Ball\, and the rediscovery of his Cortland residency through local historical research. Sculptures from the speaker’s collection and a painting by William Alan Couper donated to the Cortland County Historical Society will be featured. SUMMARY:The End of the World Never Minding Show
DESCRIPTION:It is time for End of the World Never Minding! Join Bread & Puppet Theater for an urgently-needed new puppet show featuring our upside-down situation\, a revolt orchestra\, screaming choirs\, and a reckoning with the catastrophe of logic.\n\nOf The End of the World Never Minding Show\, director Peter Schumann tells us that\, “The sitting mind realises the predicament of the rats\, assigned to spread the plague which opens the gates of darkness as fears chase the populations across the face of the earth. Humanity’s humdrum is now outrageous and no longer composed of beloved details. The rats in charge of spreading the plague are ordered to repurpose human freedom and democracy into guns\, bombs\, and starvation. Our own futuristic Not-Yet is impatient and unready. We must take our cardboard provocations into the revolting streets of life\, with help from our paper-maché divinities\, to succeed and succeed.”\n\n\n\n\nAfter the show Bread & Puppet will serve its famous sourdough rye bread with aioli\, and Bread & Puppet’s “Cheap Art” – books\, posters\, postcards\, pamphlets and banners from the Bread & Puppet Press – will be for sale.
