The Great Bigfoot Chase is a county-wide photo scavenger hunt featuring larger-than-life Bigfoot cutouts at roadside pull-offs and local businesses. Whether you’re a seasoned squatch hunter or just in it for the photo ops, this free family-friendly adventure is your chance to explore Cortland in a whole new way.

Snap a Pic
Take a photo of each Bigfoot you spot (from a safe pull-off or public area only – no trespassing!). The more you collect, the closer you get to Bigfoot glory.

The legend of the Truxton Beast dates back to a balmy August evening in 1940, when a berry picker in Truxton, New York, fled in terror after encountering a mysterious, shaggy-haired creature emitting blood-curdling cries. Sightings of this elusive beast have continued over the years, with reports of its presence spanning from Truxton to Marathon. Despite numerous attempts by seasoned hunters, the creature has never been captured or identified, leaving its existence shrouded in mystery. This enduring local folklore has inspired “The Great Bigfoot Chase,” a county-wide scavenger hunt celebrating Cortland County’s rich tapestry of legends and inviting participants to explore the area in search of Bigfoot cutouts, blending adventure with a nod to the region’s enigmatic past.
