Baseball, Batters & Big League Dreams: 100 Years of Local Legends
Take a swing through Cortland County’s baseball past with local historian and aficionado Tony Kissel as he unveils his latest research into the region’s long love affair with America’s pastime. From the scrappy Town Teams to the rise of the City League Era and Semipro greats, Kissel will trace a century of fastballs, fanfare, and forgotten stars from Cortland County to Groton.
The presentation spotlights dozens of homegrown players who lit up local diamonds—some legends, some nearly lost to time. Think you know your local sports history? This deep dive might just throw you a curveball.
The talk takes place at 9 Grace Street (the former Free Methodist Church). Parking is available in the lot. Admission is free for Cortland County Historical Society members and just $5 for members-to-be. Attendees are welcome to bring their own lunch—beverages and dessert will be provided.
