Secrets Beneath the Surface: The Erie Canal at 200

What lies beneath the still waters of the Erie Canal? A marvel of engineering, a gateway to fortune, and a trail of strange stories. For two centuries, this man-made river has carried whispers of ambition and forgotten lives.

Join the Taylor Historical Society on Monday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Taylor Town Hall (3304 State Route 26, Taylor, NY) for “The Basics of the Erie Canal.” Derrick Pratt of the Erie Canal Museum of Syracuse will peel back the layers of history on the canal’s bicentennial—revealing how it carved its way across New York State, reshaping towns, trade, and even destinies.

This Curiosities-worthy evening is free and open to all. Step into the past and see why the canal’s story is as much about mystery as it is about progress.
