Spirits of the Past: Centennial Soiree

The Cortland County Historical Society has spent a century digging up stories, preserving artifacts, and keeping the past very much alive. Now, they’re inviting you to step straight into history itself at the Centennial Soirée, a one-night celebration on October 25 at the historic Center for the Arts in Homer.
This won’t be your average anniversary party. Expect live music to set the mood for mingling, memory-making, and maybe a little Charleston if you’re feeling inspired. A curated 1920s fashion display nods to the era when CCHS was first founded, while a delicious walkabout feast—pasta station with local sauces, crisp salads, and a decadent dessert bar—keeps the conversation flowing as easily as the wine.
Costumes aren’t required, but guests are encouraged to channel their favorite historical era. Whether you arrive in flapper fringe, Victorian lace, or 1980s shoulder pads, you’ll be part of a century-spanning crowd that bridges the past, present, and future.
The Centennial Soirée promises nostalgia, laughter, and plenty of curiosity as we look ahead to the next hundred years of Cortland County history. Let’s honor the past, toast the future, and maybe even make a little history ourselves.
