Sunday Stitcher’s Series

Something revolutionary is unfolding in Cortland County—one stitch at a time.
Magpie Custom Creations, in alliance with the Cortland County Historical Society, invites daring dressmakers, costume historians, and curious souls to take part in the Bloomer Costume Challenge, a bold nod to the reformers of 1855. Participants will bring to life the iconic Bloomer ensemble—once scandalous, now celebrated—to be revealed in grand fashion at the Historical Society’s Gala on October 25.
This summer, select Sundays from 1–4 p.m., Magpie will open its studio doors for the Sunday Stitcher’s Series: a guided workshop through the art and rebellion of reform dressmaking. Topics include:
Resizing your 1855 pattern (available at CCHS)
Selecting historically inspired fabrics
Layout and construction technique.
Finishing flourishes: embroidery, trim, and embellishment
Each session offers hands-on instruction and a chance to stitch your way into history. Materials will be available at cost. Studio time is $10 per instructional hour.
Space is limited, and whispers of reform travel fast. Call or text 607-591-9652 to reserve your seat at the sewing table—before the fabric runs out.
